10 graduating with honors from NHS

ROSSTON – Nevada High School’s graduation ceremony is set for Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the Nevada gymnasium. Ten seniors will graduate with honors.

Kristin Butler, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Butler, will graduate with highest honors. She is a member of FBLA, NHS, Book Club, and the Lady Jays Basketball and Softball Teams. Kristin has received numerous academic awards including the President’s Award for Educational Excellence and many subject awards. She is an Arkansas Scholar and Senior of Distinction. She was also selected DAR Good Citizen.

Butler has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and plans enroll in the RN Program at Southern Arkansas University and then pursue a master’s degree to become a nurse anesthetist.

Mickayla Casey, daughter of Jeremy and Heather Casey, will graduate with highest honors. She is FBLA treasurer and a member of NHS, Gifted and Talented, the Drug Free Team, Christian Club, and Art Club. She is also a member of the Lady Jays Softball team. She received fourth place in Web Design at the FBLA District IV Conference and is an Arkansas Scholar.

Casey has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Achievement Award to Southern Arkansas University where she plans to major in Early Childhood Education.

Katelyn Foster, daughter of Randall and Carol Foster, will graduate with highest honors. She is Senior Class President, a member of FBLA, NHS, FFA, and Gifted and Talented. She is a member of the 2015-2016 Leadership Nevada County Class. She is also a member of the Lady Jays Softball and Golf Teams. Katelyn has received numerous scholarships and awards including The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, the Founder’s Scholarship to OBU worth $56,000, the Honors Scholarship to Williams Baptist College which covers full tuition for four years and a $28,000 Golf Scholarship, and the Leadership Scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She is also an Arkansas Scholar and Senior of Distinction.

Foster has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the University Scholarship in the amount of $36,000 to Southern Arkansas University where she plans to attend and major in athletic training.

Elizabeth Lafferty, daughter of Billy and Cindy Lafferty, will graduate with highest honors. She is a member of FBLA, Gifted and Talented, NHS, and the Lady Jays Softball Team. Elizabeth has received several academic awards including The President’s Award for Educational Excellence. She is also an Arkansas Scholar and Senior of Distinction. She also received fifth place in Business Communications at the State FBLA Conference and will be going to Nationals this summer.

Lafferty has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and major in Animal Science with a pre-professional focus.

Samantha Pipkin, daughter of Ronnie and Sherry Pipkin, will graduate with highest honors. She is Vice-President of the Senior Class, a member of FBLA, NHS, Drug-Free Team, Christian Club, Art Club, and Yearbook Editor.   She is also a member of the Lady Jays Softball and Golf Teams. She has received several academic awards including The President’s Award for Educational Excellence, Health Award, Animal Science II Award, and Sports and Entertainment Marketing Award. She is also an Arkansas Scholar. She received fifth place in Job Interview and sixth place in Introduction to Technology concepts at the District FBLA Conference.

Pipkin has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, the Debra McMaster Scholarship, and the Merit Scholarship to Ouachita Baptist University where she plans to major in Marketing and minor in political science.

Jazmine Beasley, daughter of Joseph Beasley and Vanessa Beasley, will graduate with high honors. She is a member of FBLA, NHS, and the Lady Jays Basketball and Softball Teams. She is an Arkansas Scholar, Senior of Distinction, made All State, and is on the honor roll.

Beasley plans to attend Southern Arkansas University and become a nurse practitioner or physical therapist.

Lakendria Johnson, daughter of Deshuna Pearson and Jeffrey Johnson, will graduate with high honors. She is a member of FBLA, Gifted and Talented, and NHS. She is an Arkansas Scholar, on the Honor Roll, and received first place in an Art Contest.

Johnson has received the Ouachita Merit Scholarship in the amount of $40,000 from Ouachita Baptist University and the Academic Scholarship to Southern Arkansas University. She plans to attend college and major in occupational therapy.

Olivia King, daughter of Elaine King and the late Hertis King, Jr., will graduate with high honors. She is a member of FBLA, NHS, Christian Club, Art Club, and Choir. She is also member of the Lady Jays Basketball, Softball, and Track Teams. Olivia is an Arkansas Scholar and on the honor roll.

King plans to attend Southern Arkansas University and become a nurse practitioner. She also plans to get her cosmetology license.

Tanner Stone, son of Kavin and Amanda Stone, will graduate with high honors. He is FFA secretary and a member of FBLA, NHS, and the Christian Club. He has received academic awards in Mathematics and Agri Metals. Tanner is an Arkansas Scholar and Senior of Distinction.

Stone has accepted the Ila Upchurch Scholarship, the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, the Farm Credit Scholarship, and the Academic Scholarship to Southern Arkansas University where he plans to attend and major in agribusiness.

Destiny Young, daughter of Angel Jones and Joseph Young, will graduate with honors. She is a member of the Drug-Free Team, Christian Club, FBLA, NHS, and the Lady Jays Basketball Team. She is an Arkansas Scholar and on the honor roll.

Young plans to attend Southern Arkansas University and pursue a degree in business administration.
