PHS Seniors honored at awards assembly

PHS AWARDS 023PRESCOTT – Members of Prescott High School’s Class of 2017 were honored at an awards assembly Thursday morning in the Prescott Sports Arena.

The class was lauded for its accomplishments, with several students earning scholarships to colleges and universities around the state. One, Diana Aguirre, earned a scholarship to Columbia University. Scholarships were presented from: Ouachita Baptist University, the University of Arkansas at Monticello, University of Arkansas Community College Hope-Texarkana, Henderson State University, Southern Arkansas University, Delta State, Arkansas Tech, the University of Central Arkansas and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Other scholarships presented were from different organizations, including: the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, Ila Upchurch scholarship, the James McKenzie scholarship, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Dorothy Odom scholarship, Eugene Forhell scholarship, Marvin Watson music scholarship, Debora McMaster scholarship, Shield Insurance scholarship, Ricardo Young Memorial Scholarship, Cattlemen’s Association and Lifeshare Blood Services..

Members of the class were also recognized for their classroom achievements other than grades.

PHS Principal Missy Walley kicked things off by saying this was a gathering to celebrate the senior class and its accomplishments. “This is an extraordinary class and will be making its mark,” she said. Walley told the seniors they will have the chance to leave their legacy, but have to choose what this legacy will be. “I expect good things from this class. This is one impressive class.”
