CASA hosting “colorful” 5k
TEXARKANA, TX – CASA of Texarkana is having their fifth annual Colorful 5K for children and families on Saturday, September 23, at Trinity Baptist Church on the corner of loop 245 and Trinity Boulevard.
This year CASA is delighted to add “Run as Your Favorite Super Hero” to the annual family fun event. The new twist came from the idea that every one of our children needs a Hero, but abused and neglected children need Super Heroes.
Join in the excitement and fun of a color powder 5K at Trinity Baptist Church’s cross-country track and come dressed as your favorite superhero. There will be an opportunity to get your child’s photo taken with our superheroes that are real advocates for abused children.
Those interested can register online for the race at www.runsignup.com/casacolorful5k or at www.casatexarkana.org/colorful5K. The day of the event, late registration will begin at 8 a.m. A children’s fun run will be at 8:30 a.m. (ages 5-12). CASA is thrilled again this year to have Anytime Fitness helping with the children’s race. The regular race will follow at 9 a.m. All along the route participants will be puffed with non-toxic colored powder with music, lots of enthusiasm and many other activities. Some activities during the morning event will include, a bounce house, washable tattoos, a magician making balloon characters, snow cones, food from Super 1 Foods, yogurt tasting from Orange Leaf and samples from Small Cakes cupcakes.
Along with all the fun, we have added a knocker ball and bounce ball section for the children. Be on the lookout for posters all over town with information about the run and come join CASA, local mascots and cheerleaders as they cheer you along a true fun run.
Don’t miss this fun morning for the whole family and know that your participation is helping a child find a better life.
The run is dedicated to Amanda Fussell Woodman for her many years of tireless dedication to CASA and its programs for the abused and neglected children in our community who are unable to speak for themselves. This fun event was one that Amanda envisioned as she continued her quest in the pursuit to end child abuse.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a national volunteer organization for abused and neglected children. CASA volunteers become involved with the important aspects of the children’s lives and make recommendations to the court. CASA advocates make such an important difference. There is a report of child abuse every 10 seconds in our country. 6.6 million cases of abuse and neglect are reported annually. Of these, 3.2 million are subject to investigation. Four to seven children in our country are lost to abuse and neglect every day. Let’s help put an end to this outrage. Volunteer. Make a difference.
