The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana will host a Safe Sitter® Essentials course on Tuesday, March 20 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Safe Sitter® is for young children in grades 5-8 who are ready to learn the skills they need to care for themselves and watch younger children. The course is filled with fun games, role-playing exercises, and manikins to practice life-saving techniques. Students will also learn life and business skills, so that they know how to be prepared, be responsible, and be considerate whether they are babysitting or doing odd jobs for family, friends, or neighbors.

For more than 35 years, Safe Sitter® has been a leader in providing life skills, safety skills, and child care training for youth. Now a national nonprofit organization with over 900 registered providers in all 50 states, Safe Sitter® continues to help build safer communities by providing youth with the skills they need to be safe while home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.

The cost for the course is $75. Class size is limited to eight students. Please bring your lunch or money for lunch at the Brickhouse Express Café on campus. Parents or guardians should arrive at 2 p.m. for the graduation ceremony.
