No damage from rains – so far

PRESCOTT – So far, the heavy rains this week haven’t resulted in the closing of county roads.

According to Nevada County Judge Mark Glass, 10.5 inches of rain has fallen at the Nevada County Landfill. He said there’s water over most gravel roads in the county, and washouts in some area. Unfortunately, he added, until the rain stops and there’s a few day’s dry weather, the county road crews can’t go out to make any repairs.

“It’s not as bad as I’ve seen it before,” Glass said, adding it’s still not good. There have been some trees downed because of the rain, but as he said, “It could be worse.”

Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver said the city’s street crews have been dealing with drainage issues, mostly clearing debris from ditches so water can flow freely. “The city’s done a good job with water, sewer and drainage,” he said.

While this is unrelated to the rain, Oliver said the walking track is starting to erode and will need to be resealed, but this can’t be done until the rain stops and the area gets some dry weather.
