President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site invites you to join in the National Civil Rights Museum’s commemoration events of the assassination Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The theme for the 50th anniversary of the assassination is Where Do We Go from Here? Inspired by the title of Dr. King’s final book.

Dr. King was assassinated April 4, 1968 on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis TN. Since his death parts of the property of the motel have been turned into the National Civil Rights Museum. Events will take place at that location in Memphis and the museum has encouraged participation in a bell ringing ceremony for those outside of the Memphis area. Bells will be rung 39 times in honor of the number of years Dr. King lived.

The National Civil Rights Museum will start its bell ringing at 6:01 p.m. CST, the approximate time of the assassination, bells will chime in the city of Memphis at 6:03 p.m. CST, nationally at 6:05 p.m. CST, and internationally 6:07 p.m. CST. Contact Ms. Tarrin McGhee at tarrin@piquepr.com or Carmen Coya at ccoya@thekingcenter.org to join or register directly at http://mlk50.civilrightsmuseum.org/.
