PRESCOTT – Two candidates for Justice of the Peace, District 3, were on hand at Tuesday’s political rally at the Nevada County Courthouse.

Curtis Lee Johnson spoke for his son, Tommy, who was unable to attend. Their first question was how the city and county could work together to improve the economy.

Johnson said the county has a group that meets with the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office (EDO) monthly, and the city and county meet as well.

Pat Grimes said both need to operate more like a business and make sure there’s accountability where the money is concerned.

The only other question they were asked is why they were the best candidate for the position.

Johnson said the job of the court and JPs is to handle the county’s money. It does no hiring and firing, and this is something his son could do.

Grimes replied she’d speak her mind and do what’s best for the people in the city and county. She talked about the committee’s she’s been on including the planning and zoning commission, housing committee, is the president of the Tri Service Club and a Master Gardener.
