Nine graduating with honors from NHS

ROSSTON – Nevada High School’s graduation ceremony is set for Thursday, May 10, at 7 p.m. in the Nevada gymnasium.  Nine seniors will graduate with honors.

Brandon Gulley, son of Rodney Gulley and Geneive Henry, will graduate with highest honors.  He is a member of the Art Club, FBLA, and NHS.  He is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Gulley has accepted the Golden Star Scholarship in the amount of $250 and the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship. He plans to enroll in the RN Program at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Caney Hicks, son of Chris Hicks and Tracy Rogers, will graduate with highest honors.  He is a member of FFA, FBLA, NHS, the Christian Club, and the Coding Club.  He is in the Gifted and Talented Program and on the honor roll.  Hicks has represented the school in the state competition in both FBLA and FFA.  He was selected as one of five Seniors of Distinction and received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.  He is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Hicks has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Top 10 percent Scholarship to SAU in the amount of $3,300 per semester.  He plans to study criminal justice at Southern Arkansas University and pursue a career in law enforcement.

Boston Moore, son of Kevan and Tammy Moore, will graduate with highest honors. He is a member of FBLA and NHS.  He is on the baseball and basketball teams.  He received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence and is on the honor roll.  He is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Moore  has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship.   He plans to get his basics at National Park Community College and transfer to Henderson State University to pursue a bachelor’s of science in nursing.

Bailey Reed, daughter of Jimmy and Melissa Martin, will graduate with highest honors.  She is a member of the Christian Club, the Coding Club, Drug-Free Team, Art Club, and NHS.  She serves as President of FBLA and Senior Class Representative.  She received the President’s Award of Educational Excellence and was selected as one of five Seniors of Distinction.  Reed was also selected as one of two seniors to attend Governor’s Scholastic Honors Day based on excellent academic achievement in the senior class.  She was chosen as Nevada High School’s DAR Good Citizen.  She is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Reed has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Salutatorian Scholarship to SAU in the amount of $3,300 per semester.  She plans to attend Southern Arkansas University this fall.

Brady Rhodes, son of Brandon and Shelly Rhodes, will graduate with highest honors.  Brady is a member of the Christian Club, NHS, and Drug-Free Team.  He is also a member of the basketball, baseball, golf, and track teams.  He is actively involved in FBLA where he received the Community Service Award, first place in Publication Design at the district level, and first place in Agribusiness at the district and state levels.  He will compete in Agribusiness at the FBLA National Competition in Baltimore, Maryland this summer.  He is also a member of the Coding Club where he was recognized as an Arkansas Governor’s Coding Competition Regional Finalist.   Rhodes has received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, was chosen as one of five Seniors of Distinction, and was selected as one of two seniors to attend Governor’s Scholastic Honors Day based on excellent academic achievement in the senior class.  He is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Rhodes has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholarship to SAU in the amount of $3,300 per semester.  He plans to attend Southern Arkansas University this fall and study wildlife biology.

Jordon Sanders, son of Donnie and Cathy Sanders, will graduate with highest honors.  Jordon is a member of NHS and the Art Club.  He serves as Senior Class President, Yearbook Treasurer, and is in the Gifted and Talented Program.  Sanders is on the all “A” honor roll, was chosen as one of five Seniors of Distinction, and received the President’s Award of Educational Excellence.  He was chosen as Nevada High School’s Student of the Year.  He is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Sanders has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Imagine America Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.  He plans to attend the Universal Technical Institute to study collision repair and refinishing technology.

Alexis Shipp, daughter of Allen and Stacy Shipp, will graduate with highest honors.  She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at UAHT.  She is on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at UAHT and has completed 52 college credits.  She is a member of NHS.  She also received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.  Shipp has been awarded the Academic Achievement Scholarship in the amount of $11,500 a year to Harding University and the University Centurium Scholarship in the amount of $7,000 a year to Henderson State University.  She is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Shipp has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Blue and Gold Scholarship in the amount of $3,300 a semester to Southern Arkansas University where she plans to enroll this fall and major in accounting.  She plans to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration after completing a bachelor’s degree.

Sara Hilliard, daughter of Mark and Lou Hilliard, will graduate with high honors.  She is a member of the Golf Team, NHS and FBLA.  She placed first twice in Securities and Investments at FBLA Competition.  She was chosen as one of five Seniors of Distinction, is on the A/B honor roll, and received the President’s Award of Educational Excellence.  She is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Hilliard has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship and the Blue and Gold Scholarship in the amount of $3,300 a semester.  She plans to study biology-pre-health at Southern Arkansas University this fall and then transfer to Louisiana State University to study veterinary medicine.

Amanda Irvin, daughter of Donna Hollis and Morris Irvin, will graduate with honors.  She is a member of FBLA, the Christian Club, and NHS.  She has volunteered to work the blood drives at school and is on the honor roll.  She received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence.  She is also an Arkansas Scholar.

Irvin has accepted the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, the Arkansas Rehab Scholarship in the amount of $5,000 a year, and the Police Daughters Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.  She plans to attend the University of Arkansas at Little Rock this fall to study to become a registered nurse.
