Morgan at HH June 15

HOPE – Country music icon Lorrie Morgan comes to Hope, for one performance Friday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. in beautiful Hempstead Hall on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Hope.

Lorretta Lynn “Lorrie” Morgan, named for one legend and the daughter of another, George Morgan, began her career when she was barely a teenager by taking center stage at the Grand Ole Opry alongside her father, performing her rendition of Paper Roses.  Three years later, after her father’s passing, she launched her own career touring with her dad’s band.  Lorrie made history when she became a lifetime member of the Grand Ole Opry at the age of 24, the youngest person ever to become a member.

Lorrie inked her first recording contract in 1988 with RCA, and went on to make her mark with such timeless country standards as Five Minutes, Something in Red, Watch Me and What Part of No.  She has sold over six million records and has had four top-ten hits, 12 recorded albums and four Female Vocalist of the Year awards.  Her duet partners have included Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Andy Williams and even the Beach Boys.  She has performed on Broadway and abroad.

Lorrie teamed with singer Pam Tillis to record an album, Dos Divas, released in 2013, that features solo performances by both as well as collaborations.  Titles include That’s So Cool, Bless Their Hearts, I am a Woman, I Know What You Did Last Night, and What Was I Thinkin’, which they co-wrote.

“I have been a daughter, a bride, a mother, a divorcee, a widow, a single mother, a grandmother, a breadwinner, and ultimately, a survivor,” says Morgan.  “It seems, in many ways that I am a living, breathing country song and I know what I sing.  My music and songwriting has a healing power for me personally, and these days that’s what I aspire to be, a compelling and captivating music poet.”

A poet indeed, Lorrie Morgan has written and recorded 15-plus of her own songs over the course of her career.
