Anderson grew up in south Kansas City and graduated from Center High School in 1973.  She worked in banking for 22 years before making the decision to finally go to college to obtain her teaching degree.  She was fortunate to be hired by St.  Luke’s UMC as the Youth Director while attending college.  She attended Longview Community College and the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, graduating Suma Cum Laude in 2001 with her Bachelors in Education and 2003 with her Master’s in Education.  She is certified in Elementary Education, and Middle School and High School for Social Studies and Communication Arts.  Anderson began her teaching career in the Hickman Mills District in South Kansas City, teaching 8th grade Social Studies at Smith Hale for one year and all Social Studies classes at the Management School for two years.  From there she decided to find a position closer to home and obtained a position at Summit Ridge Academy in Lee’s Summit where she spent 12 years working with at-risk kiddos in a non-traditional setting. Anderson was the only Social Studies teacher in the program and serviced 7-12 graders in all traditional classes as well as Psychology, Sociology, Modern Global Issues, Contemporary Issues, and a Career class.  She has sponsored both the Builder’s Club and Key Club at Summit Ridge Academy from 2007-2016. She treasurers her world travels as chaperone for high school kiddos from the district to Europe three times visiting most of the Western European countries.  Cheryl was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award, given annually in the district, in May of 2012.  She retired in June of 2016 and notes that she still misses her kiddos greatly but is enjoying this new chapter of her life.

Anderson has been married to Richard for 41 years and they have two successful sons.  Now included in the family are two daughters-in-law and the four grandchildren, two boys and two girls.  Her career during this chapter in her life is babysitting the precious grandchildren and enjoying more family time.  The Anderson family also enjoys restoring and showing classic cars from the late 1960’s to early 1970’s.  Her pride and joy is a 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator identical to the one she had when she married Richard.
