Flowers elected secretary of Arkansas Treasurer’s Association

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas County Treasurers’ Association held its summer continuing education meeting June 20-22, at the Doubletree Hotel in Fort Smith/Sebastian County.

Judy Lee Flowers was among approximately 70 treasurers and deputy treasurers to attend. Judy earned an additional 14 continuing education credit hours.

“Courthouse Security, Risk Management and some new legislation was discussed, ”  Flowers  said.

Members of the Continuing Education and Executive boards met Wednesday, June 20. Then the meeting of the full association convened Thursday, June 21, with Arkansas County Treasurers’ Association President and Greene County Treasurer Debbie Cross welcoming the group. Following, Director of Privacy Risk Management with Arvest Bank Jon Pascoe, gave a presentation on avoiding online scams and fraud. In addition, Senior Regional Investment Officer with Arvest Bank Daniel Robinson, gave an overview of public funds investments.

J.P. French, director of strategic accounts for Rave Mobile Safety, gave an overview of the features of the RAVE Panic Button and Smart911 emergency alert services. Following, AAC Governmental Affairs Director Josh Curtis delivered an update on 911 funding.

Treasurers and deputies also engaged in roundtable discussions of various topics of interest to the county treasurer’s office. AAC Consultant Eddie Jones and Washington County Treasurer Bobby Hill answered treasurers’ questions after the roundtable discussions.

On Friday, before adjourning, the association heard from Sebastian County Sheriffs’ Office Deputy Steve Scott on courthouse security, including how to be prepared for an active shooter situation.

Treasurers also elected new association officers. The newly elected officers as of July 1, 2018, are:

  • President — Terry McNatt, Craighead County
  • Vice President — Selena Blair, Columbia County
  • Secretary — Judy Lee Flowers, Hempstead County
  • Treasurer — Loletia Rather, Pike County
  • AAC Board Representative — Debbie Cross, Greene County
  • Legislative Liaisons — Beverly Pyle, Crawford County; Tim Stockdale, Garland County; Tammie Stanford, Poinsett County; Larry Davis, Saline County
  • Continuing Education Board Members — Jenay Mize, Baxter County; Deanna Ratcliffe, Benton County; Jennifer Beene, Calhoun County; Joni Canatella, Chicot County; Dayna Guthrie, Little River County; Betty Boling, Montgomery County; Bobby Hill, Washington County; and Janet Hibbits, White County
