Blevins turns out for fireworks show

By Staff, 07/7/18 11:11 AM

BLEVINS – Parking was at a premium at Blevins Schools Wednesday for the annual Blevins Volunteer Fire Department Independence Day fireworks show.

Most of the community turned out for the free hot dog and hamburger supper, which was served prior to the fireworks show. Patrons filled the school’s cafeteria, chowing down on the traditional holiday fare before heading out to see the show.

People came early to claim the best parking spots for the show, which was held behind the elementary school in an empty lot. Members of the VFD were on hand with a firetruck just in case. There were plenty of volunteer firemen on hand to help out as fire helmets were given to the children prior to the event. Fortunately, nothing went wrong and the show went off without a hitch. Of course, with the show not starting until dark, those present had to find ways to occupy themselves. Several youngsters did this by tossing a football around. Most, though, simply took the time and visited with one another.

When darkness fell, the show started, with the skies being lit up for the next 30 minutes with the explosions.
