Hope Civitan Car Show to be held at the Watermelon Festival Saturday, August 11.

One of the entries in the 2017 Hope Civitan Car Show is pictured with several other cars in the background. This year’s car show at the Watermelon Festival will run 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and the public is invited to attend and walk among the classic cars.

 

Classic cars ranging from pre-1950 models to present-day sports cars will be rolling into Hope for the annual Hope Civitan Car Show at the Watermelon Festival Saturday, August 11.

     Cars will be judged and trophies awarded in 13 categories, as well as for “Best Paint,” “Best Engine,” “Best of Show Car,” and “Best of Show Truck.”

     The 13 categories of competition are Pre-1950 Car or Truck; 1950-1960 Car; 1950-1960 Truck; 1961-1972 Car; 1961-1972 Truck; 1973-1990 Car; 1973-1990 Truck; 1991-Present Car; 1991-Present Truck; Corvette,1953-Present; Rat Rod; Kit Car or Truck; and Import.
      Pruden said the cars come from the local area and also from surrounding states.
     The trophies presented to the car show winners are made possible by local sponsors, according to Pruden.  “We are so grateful to our trophy sponsors and to other local businesses who provide the door prizes that we give away to our entrants throughout the day,” she said.
     Sponsors include Hope Auto, Mustard Seed Wealth Management, Hempstead County Farm Bureau, Madlock’s Auto Glass and Body, Yocom Body Shop, New Millenium Building Systems, Lance & Associates Real Estate, Bobcat Freight, and M&T Plumbing.  Trophies for the four “Best” categories are donated by Ed Foster at Hope Engraving, said Pruden.
     Car owners will arrive with their prized automobiles starting around 8 a.m. and registration for the show will continue until 11 a.m. “Some of the car owners pre-register, but most just register on the day of the show,” said Pruden.  “We have lots of room in the park and we would love to have a record number of entries this year.  I encourage anyone with one of these beautiful cars or trucks to join us on Saturday of the Watermelon Festival.”
    Proceeds of the show go in part to the the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce and also to the Hope Civitan Club to fund the club’s projects.  The show will wrap up with the presentation of trophies to winners around 2 p.m.  For more information on the show, contact Mona Still at 870-648-5084.
