NCSO makes major drug bust

On Tuesday, August 14, at approximately 9:45 p.m., K-9 Deputy Jeremy Hendrix working under the 8th North Task Force made a traffic stop on passenger vehicle near the 46 mile marker on Interstate 30. The stop was made due to the vehicle being operated careless.

Further investigation into the stop led to a search of the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle probable cause was established the spare tire contained some type of contraband.

Entry was  made into the spare tire locating seven packages believed to contain methamphetamine.

The operator of the vehicle identified as H/M Kendri E Leiva-Rivera from Fresno, Texas, and H/M Leyva Rodriguez from Houston, Texas. Both were placed into custody and were transported to the Nevada County Jail.

A further investigation was conducted on the packages that were found inside the tire. This investigation showed that the substance tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 7.5 pounds. Street value of the controlled substance was estimated at approximately $250,000.
