McRae Park gets new sign

PRESCOTT – A new sign has been put up at McRae Park.

Steve Crow, director of the Prescott Parks and Recreations Department, said the sign was erected Tuesday morning. The former sign, put up by members of a leadership group about 10 years ago, had rotted and was damaged by storms. This sign was made by Southern Graphics, but put together by the parks department. It was also paid for with park commission funds, after first being approved by the commission. The sign is in purple, Crow said, because that was one of the colors of the McRae School.

He pointed out the land for the school, and what is now the park, was donated by former Arkansas Gov. McRae to be used as a school.

The sign isn’t the only improvements planned for the park. Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, is working on a matching grant for sidewalks, handicap parking, new gold capping for the ball field and security cameras for the park, as well as picnic tables for the concession area. The planned projects will cost around $80,000.
