Tree planted in memory of WWI veterans

PRESCOTT – Through a partnership of the Arkansas World War 1 Centennial Commemoration Committee and the Arkansas Forestry Commission, the City of Prescott planted a two-year-old willow oak tree to remember the 71,862 Arkansans who served during the Great War, including the 2,183 who died while in service. There is to be a memorial tree planted in each of Arkansas’s 75 counties. The Arkansas World War 1 Commemoration Committee provided soil from Meuse-Argonne National Cemetery in France to be added when the trees are planted. Mayor Terry Oliver, Economic Development Director Mary Godwin, Community Development Director Tammie Ward Rose along with several representatives from the Arkansas Forestry Commission all took part in this event. The tree is planted at the Prescott Walking Trail.
