NRA banquet nets $18,000
PRESCOTT – Saturday’s Annual Piney Woods Friends of the NRA Banquet was a record event with 12 corporate tables sold.
More than 150 people were packed into the Potlatch Building for the event, which featured another first – this was the first time in the state there were two guns of the year available. Normally only one gun of the year is on hand for someone to win, but the man who won the gun at the De Queen banquet donated it to the Prescott banquet in honor of Cyril Stewart, who died last November. Stewart was an integral part of the banquet and the organization.
There were some interesting items available for auction, including a guitar shaped like an automatic rifle autographed by Ted Nugent, an ardent supporter of the NRA.
Veterans, law enforcement and first responders were recognized at the event. After the meal, it was on to the auction, where bids came fast and furious to help raise money for shooting sports in schools. A check for $3,000 was presented to the Garrett Memorial shooting team. A second check, also for $3,000 will go to the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope’s shooting team.
The money raised at these events is used to help promote shooting sports in schools. All a district needs to do is have a shooting team and apply for a grant.
