Rosston man dies after traffic stop

MAGNOLIA – A Rosston man died early Thursday shortly after his vehicle was stopped by Magnolia police on Smith Street.

The Magnolia Police Department said in a statement that officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Cornelius D. Young, 36, for traffic violations.

During the stop, Young began to show signs of physical distress. Officers called the Columbia County Ambulance Service for assistance. Young was transported by CCAS to Magnolia Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Magnolia Police Chief Todd Dew has asked the Arkansas State Police to investigate the death because Young’s medical condition was observed during the traffic stop, and the cause of his condition was not known.

State Police Investigators have begun that investigation, and Young’s body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab as part of the investigation.
