Final play day held for 4H horse club

HOPE – On Friday the Hempstead County 4-H Horse Club the Rowdy Young Riders held their last play day of the 2018 season at the Rafter J Cowboy Church Arena. Over 40 4-H kids from 2-18 years old competed in the last play day.

The club’s leader Lacey Jo Singleton, said the group raised more than $19,000 through entry fees, raffles, and sponsorships. The funds raised will go towards awards for the kids. Belt buckles, halters, breast collars, and other horse related items will be given to each 4-H member that participated in at least five of the 10play days held during the year. The club will hold an awards banquet later in the year or the first of next year to present all awards earned.

The club not only competes in rodeo type events such as barrel racing, pole bending, and goat tying, they have learned about taking care of their horses and equipment.

Other leaders in the club assisting Lacey Jo, are Vince and Tracy Grimes, Lawanda and Lonnie Friend, Chris and Jennifer Ghormley, Jamie Formby, Belinda Formby, Nancy and Sheriff James Singleton.

The new play day series will start in March of 2019. Anyone interested in the Rowdy Young Riders 4-H Club can contact the extension office at the courthouse or Lacey Jo Singleton.
