Winners all at costume contest
PRESCOTT – Elm Street, between Second and Third streets, was filled with ghouls, killer clowns, superheros, fairies, princesses, cartoon characters, soldiers and inmates Tuesday evening for the annual Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce’s Trick or Treat on Elm Street and Halloween Costume Contest.
Youngsters visited the different booths to collect candy in the spirit of the holiday as businesses, civic clubs and others lined the street with baskets filled with sugary treats. However, the trick or treating wasn’t the only part of the day’s events, as children from 0-10 years old participated in the costume contest. The creativity of the costumes made it hard for the judge’s to pick winners, especially in the six-to-eight division which had almost two dozen entries.
In the end, though, winners were picked, but all contestants went home with prizes. In the infant division, 0-11 months, Lacy Brzeski was the winner, with Alaiah Block second and Ava Bell third. Addison Zitano took the top spot in the 12-23 month category, with Ruel McKelvy second and Dylan Dickerson third. For the two-three-year-olds, Carter Lawrence was the winner, followed by Tinley Cross and Jace Jester. Conner Carter topped the four-five group, with Lille Beaver second and Drake Fincher third. It took a while in the six to eight class, but Cayson Brooks was eventually named the winner with McKenzie second and Raymundo Ortiz, Jr. third. The final category, 9-10, was won by Amy Ortiz, with Jakaiden Tillman second and Brylee Lowdermilk third.
According to Jamie Hillery, executive director of the Chamber, there were 76 entries in the costume contest overall and more than 20 vendors passing out candy.
