HCQC approves budget transfers

HOPE – The Hempstead County Quorum Court met on Nov. 15, 2018 at 5:30 p.m.

The first order of business was ordinance No. 2018-15 entitled “Transfer and Appropriation”. It stated that $11,000.22 would be transferred to the sheriff’s salaries and the coroner salaries, section two stated that $911.24 would be transferred to the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department’s salaries and the Hempstead County Coroner’s salaries. It was asked if there are enough funds to fund the ordinance, it was determined that while there are enough funds for this year, there may not be enough to fund it next year. The ordinance was voted on and approved.

A second order of business was ordinance No 2018-16, is to levy taxes to cover the County General, County Road, County Library and school districts in the county. These taxes also fund the cities in Hempstead County. The ordinance was voted on and approved.

The final order of business was ordinance 2018-17. This ordinance was to transfer fund from the voluntary tax collected to the sheriff’s budget to give deputies and jailers raises. A little more than $16,000.00 was collected. The ordinance was voted on and approved.

Other business was heard from Mayor Hoosiser, he discussed the Bicentennial celebration on Dec. 15. He asked that the mayors of the townships of Hempstead County be allowed to meet with the budget committee to discuss being able to keep some of the funds each town collects.
