Warning Coordination Meteorologist Charlie Woodrum and the National Weather Service in Shreveport Survey Friday Nights Storm

HOPE-The question that everyone has been asking, “Was it a tornado or straight line winds that came with the storm that occurred on Friday, November 30?” The National Weather Service in Shreveport visited Hope on December 2 to survey the area. City Mayor, Steve Montgomery; City Manager, Catherine Cook; County Judge, Haskell Morse; Southwest Area Coordinator, Teresa Smith; and Hempstead County Emergency Management Coordinator, Cindy Tewalt-Kleimann traveled with Warning Coordination Meteorologist Charlie Woodrum along the destruction path of the storm surveying different regions.

The group started in Spring Hill off of Battlefield Loop and proceeded along Spring Hill Road to the Downs resident where the damage was more severe. They visited different locations along Highway 29 South, Town Drive and Country Drive, the Hope Country Club, East 28 Street, and ended on Highway 278.

While surveying the damage, trees were uprooted in multiple locations, some through the roof of homes, sheet metal roofs had been blown off and intertwined in trees. Residents have already started work on the repairs to their homes along with cutting limbs that had fallen in the roads.

After observing and surveying the areas they rated the storm as an EF1 Tornado, with wind speeds of 100 to 105 miles per hour.
