HOPE – Four campuses of the Hope Public Schools District have been recognized by the University of Arkansas Office for Education Policy for “Beating the Odds” in student growth from the 2018 administration of the ACT Aspire academic assessment.
Beryl Henry Elementary School was recognized in the Overall Math and ELA, Southwest Region Math, and Southwest Region ELA categories, while Yerger Middle School was recognized in the Southwest Region Math and ELA categories; Hope Academy of Public Service was recognized in the Southwest Region ELA category; and, Hope High School was recognized in the Southwest Region Math category.
“These four schools have done a tremendous job in keeping their focus on teaching and learning,” HPSD Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hart said. “All the credit for their successes goes to their students and families, but as the superintendent, I want to acknowledge the work of the teachers and staff in making a growth mindset a focus of their buildings.”
Schools that were recognized were among those whose student populations reflected a high percentage of participation in the free and reduced federal lunch program, the report states.
“Awards are based on the 2018 content growth score calculated by the Arkansas Department of Education,” the announcement by the UA-OEP said. “These growth scores reflect how much students at the school improved from 2017 compared to how much they were expected to grow considering prior achievement.”
Hart noted the dedication of each campus principal in bringing about the latest success.
“The principals of each of these buildings are examples of leadership and dedication to learning,” he said. “Mr. Hoglund has led his staff in a tremendous culture shift.”
HHS was recognized among high schools in the southwest regional math category with a score of 80.70.
“Dr. Turner has lifted the learning and success of all students in his building,” Hart said.
BHE scored seventh among the Top 10 qualifying middle schools statewide with a combined overall score of 83.11 and was first in the southwest regional math category with a combined score of 82.80. BHE was fourth overall in ELA growth statewide with a score of 82.80 and first in the southwest regional ELA category with a score of 83.15.
“Mrs. Wylie has made YMS a tremendous place for a child and family to go to school,” Hart said. “Dr. Duke has made HAPS a constant high performer and an innovative part of our team.”
YMS scored second in the southwest regional math category with a score of 80.00, and tied at fourth in the southwest regional ELA category with HAPS, with a score of 81.05 for each school.
“I am proud of the work these principals have done and know that they are continuing to make great improvements in each of their buildings,” Hart said.
