Merry Christmas…God Bless Us Everyone!

For some of us, Christmas isn’t Christmas until we see Teddy Hayes “ringing the bell” at Wal-Mart to raise money for those less fortunate. The persistent Mr. Hayes is an important part of the social fabric of Hope, a reminder that most of us try to do our part despite any limitations we might have. Some may only see Teddy’s limitations but for those of us that live here and know him, we realize that those perceived limitations are small compared to his gifts. Teddy has blazed a way for Rainbow of Challenges clients. His achievements include being the first ROC client to join a civic club (Teddy is a Lion of good standing) and also being named the “Citizen of the Year” by the Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce. He continues his good work throughout the year selling tickets for many fundraising meals and also selling raffle tickets for every good cause imaginable (this week he is selling tickets for a ham to benefit the Saratoga/Tri-County Lions…$1 a chance!). So as you go about your shopping, remember to drop a dollar or two in Teddy’s kettle to help those less fortunate this Christmas. They and Teddy will appreciate it!
By the way, we should offer kudos to Duane Brown at Barry’s where Teddy works. Duane is always happy to let Teddy off to go raise money for the community!
