Melvin Luker
Mr. Melvin Luker, age 84 of Hope, Arkansas, passed away Thursday February 7, 2019, in Hope. Melvin was born on May 8, 1934 in Selma, Alabama, to George L and Annie Elizabeth Wade Luker. Melvin graduated from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas, and was employed by Dow Chemical Company in Freeport after graduation. He met Joyce at Friendship Baptist Church of Clute Texas, and they married shortly after on April 3, 1957. In 1967 they moved to Hope, to begin their life in the cattle and poultry business for Cornbelt Poultry Company where Melvin owned and operated two-layer farms and later joined with Tyson Poultry Company with broiler houses. Melvin’s children enjoyed horseback riding and he expanded into a quarter horse farm in 1970. In 1975, Melvin and Joyce received the poultry award for their excellence in farm management. Melvin was an active member of Shover Springs Baptist Church and was proud to have overseen the construction of their current building. Melvin enjoyed any opportunity to gather his family for a meal, watching his grandchildren in any activity they were a part of, riding his International and Kubota tractors. He enjoyed spending Thursdays at he Hope Livestock Sale Barn. He loved high school football and was an avid fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He enjoyed watching any team play football that he could find on TV. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Marvin, Boyd and one son Randy.
Melvin is survived by his wife Joyce Bobo Luker of 61 years, his children, Paul Luker, wife Paulette of Memphis, Tennessee, Charlton Luker, wife Jean Ann of Hope, Arkansas, Terrance Luker, wife Hillary of Sesto Calende, of Italy. Pam Angermiller, husband Roy of Knippa Texas, Tonja Luker Hays, husband John of Texarkana, Texas. Grandchildren, Lacey Luker Smith, Mendy Luker, Olivia Luker Webb, Hayden Luker, Mary Joyce, Thomas Luker, Paul Luker, Lisa Miller, Monica Detmer , Luker Hays, Helen Clark Hays, Spencer Frances Hays, seven great grandchildren and lifelong friend Richard Davis.
Family visitation will be 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday February 11, 2109, at BRAZZEL/Oakcrest, 1001 South Main Hope, Arkansas 71801.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm on Tuesday February 12, 2109, at BRAZZEL/Oakcrest with Bro. Terrance Luker officiating and Tonja Luker Hays Eulogist. Burial will follow in Holly Springs Cemetery, Spring Hill, Arkansas. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of BRAZZEL/Oakcrest the Funeral Home of Hope, Eddie Brazzel Director.
