Mrs. Laura “Jo” Gates Davies, 89 of Gurdon passed away, Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Courtyard Gardens in Arkadelphia. Mrs. Davies was born April 20, 1929 in Gurdon, Arkansas to Herbert Wesley Gates and Ruby Lola Cockrell Gates. For 32 years, she was an employee of the First National Bank of Gurdon where she retired as bank vice president. She was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon, a member of the UMW, Lucy Cabe Sunday School Class, and the Ora Steed Circle. Jo always enjoyed a good shopping trip, playing Canasta with her card group, and spending quality time with her identical twin sister, Jean.

Jo and J.K., and Jean and Joe Boulden made regular trips to Branson to see their favorite shows and, of course, shop. Jo loved spending time camping at Lake Degray and attending Davidson Camp meeting each summer. Jo, known to all of her family as Granny, loved big and with all of her heart. She was her granddaughters’ biggest fan and no one held a candle to her “baby Don” in her eyes. She will be greatly missed, but we are so blessed in knowing that she is now healed in mind and body and is enjoying seeing those that she has missed for so long.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years, J.K. Davies, twin Jean Boulden, and brother and sister in law; Delton and Doris Gates

Survivors include her son; Don Wesley Davies and wife, Debbie of Gurdon, her granddaughters; Heather Bruce and husband Tommy of Wake Village TX, Krissi Bailey and husband Josh of Bismarck AR, her two great grandchildren; Kamryn Bruce and Elliott Bruce, brother in law; Joe Boulden, her nephews and nieces; Jimmy Boulden, David Boulden, Gayle Beason, and Carol Neal, and several great nieces and nephews.
