Mrs. Johnnie Dorothy Ford, age 91 of Hope, Arkansas passed away, Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in a local hospital. Dorothy was born on January 12, 1928, to Michael and Lois Winberry. She loved her First Baptist Church where was she was a member. Dorothy retired from First National Bank in Hope in the proofing department and was an “Avid” Arkansas Razorback Fan. Dorothy’ s love for sports started early in life she played basketball for her high school team where she was a big-time scorer and took her talents to the United States Army serving two years in the Women’s Air Corp during the Korean War meeting and marrying her husband Robert Ford. Dorothy continued to be a big-time scorer in one game in 1952 while playing for the WAC basketball team in Fort Benning, she scored 46 of the team’s 62 points to defeat Fort McPherson. She was also asked to play ball for an all-women’s traveling team called The Red Heads however her parents told her “No” after the death of her husband she raised her six children alone for the past 50 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert Ford and grandson Jay Beard.

Dorothy is survived by her six children Lois Coleman ( Virgil) of Fayetteville, Bobby Ford of Rockwall, Joey Ford of Hope, Cindy Bass of Hope, John Ford (Norma) of Bauxite and Jo Beth Compton (Tom) of Bismarck, grandchildren: Courtney Beard, Adrian Bass, KiAnn Woodruff, Tanner Bass, Perin Ford, Jessica Thornton, Jared Compton, Sky Stevens, Star Stevens, Allison Dyer, Mark Coleman, numerous great-grandchildren and was over joyed by the one on the way. Dorothy had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday March 15, 2019, at BRAZZEL/Oakcrest 1001 South Main Hope, Arkansas 71801.

Funeral services will be 10:00am on Saturday March 16, 2019, at BRAZZEL/Oakcrest with Bro. Stan Paris and Lane Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Corinth Cemetery in Bodcaw with military honors. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of BRAZZEL/Oakcrest The Funeral Home of Hope, Eddie Brazzel Director.
