First Day Of Jonquil Festival Very Good

The 51st annual Jonquil Festival dawned clear and sunny on Friday. Hundreds of people were in the park at all times enjoying food, crafts, historic exhibits, and music. The festival kicks off at 9am Saturday and Sunday. At 7:30am Saturday is the Jonquil 5K Run sponsored by the Hope Evening Lions. Registration begins at 6:30am at the Farmers Market Pavillion. The 4-H BBQ Chicken Cook off is set for 9am at the 1914 School Pavillion. The Four States Iron Munchers will be in action at the Blacksmith Shop Saturday from 9am until 4pm. Also the TexArk Antique Automobile Club will hold its antique car show and the Rusty Wheels Antique Engines will be set up on Block 6 which is east of US 278 in Washington. The Karaoke Star talent contest has registration at 1:30pm and begins at 2pm. All singers are invited to compete for prizes and you can sing karaoke or accompany yourself on an instrument. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry is set for 4pm to 6pm at the Washington Fire Station.
Saturday’s Entertainment will be at the Farmers market Pavillion. Dancetastics performs at 10am. At 11:30am, Jerome Underwood and the Nigh Hawk Band take to the stage. The Karaoke/Singing contest is at 2pm and at 7pm, Buddy Jewell will perform a free concert at the Farmers Market Pavillion singing his hits “Help Pour Out the Rain” and “Sweet Southern Comfort”.
Festival admission is free. Parking is $5. Tours of the historic structures are the regular price. And don’t forget the Williams Tavern Restaurant will be open 11am to 3pm with a buffet lunch including sliced pork loin, ranch chicken, meatloaf, cream potatoes, pinto beans, broccoli and cheese, macaroni and cheese, yeast rolls, and assorted desserts.
