Adam Pinner Talks About Internet Safety For Young People At Kiwanis

The Hope Kiwanis Club heard from Adam Pinner of the Arkansas State Police on March 19th. Pinner is assigned to the “Internet Crimes Against Children” taskforce. He noted his work is spread over 16 counties in this capacity. The specific social network sites Pinner addressed were Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, and Instagram. He noted that 25% of Facebook users are under ten while no one younger than 13 is supposed to be on that social media. Pinner also noted how internet stalkers can get personal information from young people’s social media posts and also detailed how stalkers can tap into a teen’s phone or tablet while they are using wi-fi in a public place. Pinner urges parents to contact authorities such as the state police if they suspect their children have been contacted in appropriately online or if their social media contacts are requesting inappropriate pictures or information.
