Shooting at PHS
PRESCOTT – Classes in the Prescott School District were cancelled after a shooting occurred at Prescott High School Monday morning.
According to Prescott Police Chief Joey Beavers, two students apparently got into an altercation Friday. Around 9 a.m. Monday, one of the boys brought a small caliber handgun to school, found the other student and fired one shot in his chest. The shooting victim was taken to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
The shooter was caught and placed under arrest. All three campuses were locked down after the shooting occurred, with no one but law enforcement and emergency personnel allowed in.
Traffic was blocked by the Arkansas State Police, Prescott Fire Department and Nevada County Rescue Unit. A text was sent to all parents letting them know school was shutting down at 10:30 a.m. and arrangements needed to be made to get their children.
Beavers said the school’s video system was being examined to see if the incident was captured on video.
