Stop leads to drug arrest

PRESCOTT – On Saturday April 6th 2018 Deputy Bo Morris was on patrol in the Emmet area. Deputy Morris observed a white Chevrolet Silverado Pickup turn from South Main to West Second without using a turn signal.

Deputy Morris made a traffic stop on the vehicle making contact with the operator. The operator identified as A Jimmy Dodge showed to have a suspended drivers license. Deputy Morris observed what is known to him to be the odor of Marijuana emitting from within the vehicle.

Deputy Morris requested K-9 Deputy Jeremy Hendrix to come to his location.

Deputy Morris advised the operator Dodge of what he had observed with Dodge stating they had just finished smoking a Marijuana cigarette.

Deputy Morris requested all occupants exit the vehicle. Deputy Morris observed that the female occupant on the passenger side was hesitant to exit the vehicle. Deputy Morris also observed the the female identified as Dawn Bennett was extremely nervous at the time.

Deputy Morris started talking to Bennett with Bennett stating that she had some needles inside her purse.

Deputy Morris conducted a search of the area where Bennett had been seated locating a small amount of marijuana along with a purse that contained identifying information belonging to Bennett. Deputy Morris located two syringes inside the purse along with a plastic baggy containing an off-white substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Dawn Bennett was placed under arrest at the time. After being placed under arrest Bennett stated that she had paraphernalia on her person.

Jimmy Dodge was cited for the above offenses and was released.

Dawn Bennett was transported to the Nevada County Detention facility where she was searched by a female detention officer. The detentions officer located a glass smoking pipe and a plastic baggy that contained an off-white substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Dawn Bennett awaits first appearance on the charges of possession of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine) and for three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
