BLEVINS – In what was described as the best race of the meet, Coach Scott Kelton said the 4×800 team for Blevins High School won the state meet in that event.

The meet was held in Mineral Springs Tuesday, April 30, under cloudy skies. The team was made up of Ethan Dixon, Nathan Foster, Tyrek and Tylek Jacobs. They covered the 800 meters in 9:22.18, edging out Caddo Hills. Ironically, Caddo Hills beat Blevins in the district meet in the event.

Kelton said the first lap of the race saw the pack in a bunch, before Blevins managed to pull away for a 20-yard lead on the second leg, holding it till after the third leg when Caddo Cap took the lead. The final runner for the Hornets, he said, looked as though he was finished, but found another gear and managed to win by five or six feet at the wire. It was the most exciting race of the meet.

David Franks finished 8th in the high jump, clearing 5-8, was 7th in the 110 hurdles in 18:26 and 5th in the 300 meter hurdles in 45:89.

The 4×400 team finished sixth. It consisted of the same members of the the 4×800 team, with the exception of Cameron Lane replacing Dixon. The team had a time of 4:39.
