60 graduate from PHS
PRESCOTT – Prescott High School sent 60 young men and women out into the world Friday night following the 2019 commencement exercises.
Because of the threat of inclement weather, and recent heavy rains, graduation was moved into the gym, though it had originally been planned to have it on the football field. The gym was packed with friends, family and well-wishers. This year there was a different twist as families of the graduates were seated on the opposite end of the court from the graduates.
Erin Jernigan got things started saying high school was an unforgettable journey that prepared the class for the future and all it may hold. She said the experience was unique to each member, but this was the Class of 2019. The class, she added, couldn’t have made it without the support of its families and friends.
Superintendent Robert Poole recognized the board and administration, saying this is a day the graduates and their families would never forget, adding this isn’t the end, but the beginning for the graduates.
“Tips for Life” was the topic of the senior speeches. All six speakers agreed this was the moment they’ve been working for the last 13 years and they were all grateful for the help they’ve received along the way from their families and the faculty and staff of the Prescott School District.
They talked about having great futures to look forward to, no matter where they are or what they’re doing, and it is time for them to make their mark. They said it’ll be terrifying as they’ll be on their own for the first time, but change happens and needs to be embraced, step out and see what happens.
The six agreed there will be times when they fail, but the important thing is to keep trying and work toward their goals, no matter how tough times may get. There will be obstacles in their paths, but nothing that can’t be overcome. They also talked about taking responsible for their lives and decisions.
The PSD, they said, gave them the tools they needed to succeed and had a positive impact on their lives. It was said the first step to success is to show up and do the job. Realistically reaching their goals, they agreed, will take time, but they need to keep working toward them. This next chapter in their lives is important and all the graduates were encouraged to strive for the top.
The important thing is to stay focused, be positive and stay in control. While one door is closing, another is opening as they embark on their new journey of adulthood.
