SWEPCO Hosts Community Coffee
The Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce community coffee was held at the Chamber office on June 19 and hosted by SWEPCO. The event was catered by Sheba’s Family Restaurant.
SWEPCO found its way to Hempstead County in 2012 when the $1.8 billion investment with $1.3 billion of that being SWEPCO share, the 600 megawatt coal fueled John W. Turk Jr. Power Plant was established.
SWEPCO and AEP have been involved in the community since becoming established. Over the past year they have made donations to the Hope Chamber of Commerce for technology updates, help sponsor the Hope Watermelon Festivals, and recently donated $500 to the Washington Volunteer Fire Department. They also visited with students in the Noble Impact program at Hope High School, where students were taken on a virtual tour on producing electricity at the Turk Power Plant.
