Drainage work progressing

PRESCOTT – Drainage work along East 2nd Street is progressing and should be done in another month – depending on the weather.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, said this is a project through the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management (ADEM) through a Hazard Mitigation Grant in the amount of around $200,000. The funding is specifically to address drainage issued in three areas in Prescott.

The areas being worked on are at E.2nd and Pine, E. 2nd and Olive and on Mockingbird Lane. Godwin said these areas were selected because of the high traffic content and their being major routes to the Prescott schools.

According to Godwin, the work has gone well so far, but there have been some issues, such as J. Conn Construction of Benton, working around 1911 water lines and some utilities not being where they should be. However, she added, once completed this should make a significant difference in the flooding issues on the streets. The work along E. 2nd Street will divert the water from the street to the railroad ditch.

Godwin said her office will be looking for other grants to address drainage problems in other areas of town.
