Hamilton Haven board meets

PRESCOTT — Hamilton Haven held its initial Board of Directors meeting Saturday at the Nevada County Library.

Hamilton Haven, scheduled to open in Prescott in November, will be a temporary home for people displaced due to fire or natural disasters and others as determined by Hamilton Haven leadership. No such facility exists in Nevada County, and it will be available to those in the surrounding areas.

The meeting was opened with a prayer by board member Rev. Ronald Majors, followed by remarks by Executive Director Michele Hamilton Rhodes. During the meeting Nicole Hamilton was elected Board of Directors President, Brenda Williams was elected Treasurer and Verion Redic Adams was chosen to serve as Secretary.

The property, located on East Second Street North in Prescott, was purchased in April 2017 by Ms. Rhodes as a family project with Ms. Hamilton (her sister) and continuing an idea by their late brother Keith Hamilton. Renovations began in earnest in late 2018, and the project has received support from businesses, churches, city government and individuals.

Hamilton Haven is a 501(c)(3) organization and designated as a public charity by the Internal Revenue Service. Contributions are tax deductible.
