100 year old loves poker and cubs

If he isn’t watching the Chicago Cubs playing, he is attentively involved in playing slots on his ipad. Leotis Sanders, a WWII veteran celebrated his 100th birthday with a crowd of over 100 friends and relatives recently at the Ice Castle event center.

“ He plays video poker and solitaire on his ipad. That is how he keeps his mind sharp,” his son and caregiver, Winston Sanders said about his father.

“ He is a great dad, there’s no one greater and he is lots of fun,” Sanders Jr. added as he stood proudly by his 100 year old father’s side.“ Everybody loves him,” was his son’s response when asked how would he describe his dad.

A first cousin , James Blakely said, “ He is a kind and gentle man and he loves sports.”

Sanders  said he served in the United States Army infantry and held the rank of corporal. But surviving the war really wasn’t what he wanted to converse about. He said he was enjoying having friends and family around him. “ I just don’t know what to think about all of this,” Sanders Sr said with what seemed a sense of humbleness.

Sanders also received a surprise birthday gift  as he was approached by the area Veteran’s Services Officer Herbert Langston. Langston  attended to gather information on Sanders and his son. Langston said he previously had no information on Mr. Sanders. “ I am going to see about getting compensation for him and his son, who is his caregiver.”Langston said.

A full spread of brisket and deserts surrounded a Chicago Cubs birthday cake made special for Sanders. Prayers and fun filled the rest of the evening as loved ones honored Sanders.
