Hempstead County Historical Meeting Tuesday, September 24, 2019

Ever wandered what the story was behind the design of the Arkansas State flag or why the Pine Tree is the state’s official tree? Come find out at the Hempstead County Historical Society on Tuesday evening September 24, 2019 at the Presbyterian Church in Washington, Arkansas at 7pm. Everyone is welcome. The guest speaker for the evening will be David Ware, Historian of the Arkansas State Capitol Building in Little Rock, Arkansas. He will be speaking on his recent book “Its Official: The Real Stories Behind Arkansas’ State Symbols.” Ware is a native of the District of Columbia, grew up in Nebraska and Wyoming, and holds degrees from the Universities of Nebraska and Wyoming, as well as the Ph.D. in American History from Arizona State University. He has worked both in the classroom and in an assortment of public history posts, including stints as microfilm clerk, park ranger, library director and historian for the Cheyenne Frontier Days Museum.  

The Historical Society seeks to bring awareness to the rich heritage and history of Hempstead County. Come and share your history with us.
