HOPE – It took longer to play the first quarter than the entire second half Friday night as the Curley Wolves dominated the Hope Bobcats 51-14.

This was Prescott’s first win of the season while the ‘Cats fall to 0-3.

The first quarter took 45 minutes to complete. This was in part due to Prescott scoring 37 points. It was also due to the ‘Cats being unable to complete any passes and fumbling three times in the period, with Prescott recovering two, converting both to touchdowns.

Prescott started the game, returning the ball to the 35. It took eight plays for the Wolves to put the first points on the board. The score came on a 25-yard run by Jaylon Hopson with 9:35 on the clock. The point after made it 7-0 and the Wolves never looked back.

Hope returned the kick to the 19, but fumbled on the next play with Prescott recovering at the ‘Cat 16. Jacobi Nolen found Jeffery Williams for six on the next play. The PAT made it 14-0 with 9:21 showing.

The ensuing kick was returned to the 26. However, the ‘Cats went nowhere fast, losing to the 16 and lining up for a punt. The snap was over the punter’s head and tossed out of bounds for a safety, making it 16-0.

Derriun Thompson returned the kick to the 45 where the Wolves set up shop. Five plays later Nolen hit Thompson for an 11-yard score. The PAT put Prescott up 23-0 with 6:36 to go.

Hope fumbled the kick with Prescott recovering at the ‘Cats 29.

Four plays later Thompson scored on an 18-yard run. The PAT made it 30-0.

The ‘Cats managed to return the next kick to the 31, lost three on first down but connected on a pass to the Prescott 25. The ‘Cats appeared to be moving in for a touchdown, aided by a pass interference call against Prescott. However, the ‘Cats fumbled with Prescott recovering at its 11 with 3:12 remaining in the first.

Prescott wasn’t finished scoring. It took the Wolves six plays to cover 89 yards. The score came on a 46-yard run by Nolen with 1:01 left. The PAT made it 37-0.

At this point the mercy ruled could have been invoked if coaches on both sides agreed. This didn’t happen.

Hope returned the kick to the 27 and lost four yards in two plays as the first quarter mercifully ended.

Prescott started substituting heavily in the second quarter, which opened with Hope facing a third and 14 from its 23. A screen gained five with the drive ending in a punt which rolled to the Prescott 35.

At no time during the game did the Wolves send a receiver back to field a punt.

Six plays later Alex George ran practically untouched in from the six. The PAT put the Wolves up 44-0.

The ‘Cats returned the kick to the Prescott eight, but saw the run wiped out with a personal foul call, placing the ball on the Hope 48. It was three and out for the ‘Cats with Prescott taking over at its 17.

Again, it took the Wolves six plays to cover 83 yards, with Thompson scoring on a 32-yard scamper. The extra point ended Prescott’s scoring for the night with the score 51-0 with 6:31 left in the half.

Hope started at its 32 after the kick, with the Wolves substituting heavily. The ‘Cats moved to the Prescott 30 before turning the ball over on downs.

Bayliss Price got into the game, carrying seven straight times, getting to the Prescott 47 as the half came to an end.

Hope kept its starters in for the entire game, but was unable to score in the third period, which ended with the ‘Cats facing a fourth and seven on the Prescott 29.

Two plays into the final 12 minutes the ‘Cats managed to score against an extremely young Prescott defense. The PAT made it 51-7.

Prescott took over on its 20 after a touchback, went nowhere in three plays and punted to the Wolf 38, with the ball returned to the 23.

Hope scored three plays later as time expired. The PAT was kicked with no time on the clock and boosted the final score to 51-14.

Prescott will be at home for the first time this season next Friday as the Wolves host the Fouke Panthers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
