City Officials “Tour of Facilities”

The Hope City Board Officials held the annual “Tour of Facilities” on Tuesday, October 29. The board met at City Hall and headed to the railroad spur near the industrial park located at off of Highway 32.

The project began in November 2018 and was completed this September. Reconstruction of the spur will aid local industries such as Hexion, and New Millennium. The spur is a $1.6million and $11,886 was used for 1,981 SY of Geotech Fabric that was placed under the rocks to help stabilize the platform.

The board then traveled to the Hope Fire Department Central Station where they talked to Deputy Fire Chief, Todd Martin. The board toured the station looking at the bays, and upstairs in the living quarters of the station. They discussed the diesel exhaust systems that had been installed in the station.  The main concern and reasoning for the installation of the Plymovent systems was that the exhaust toxins may cause a cancer health risk. Before the system was installed the fumes would escape into the upstairs quarters. The project was about $80,000 including the purchase, installation, and the electrical and was completed in 3 days.

The board met with Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Paul Henley at Northside Park to see the newly installed playground equipment. The equipment was installed in three days for $14,000. A three car parking lot will be in place soon, the area had been marked and waiting on asphalt to arrive. Sidewalks and the remaining concrete is planning to be completed by the end of November. The park will meet the ADA Acceptable requirements.

The city shop was the next stop on the tour where the board was guided through the office building by Street Superintendent, Tim Blue and Sanitation Superintendent, Nathaniel Holyfield. Inside the office building the board got to see the windows that had been installed this year. The board then traveled to Hope Fair Park where they drove the park and the seen the construction of the playground equipment.
