Mexican Consul Visits Hempstead County Library

Mexican Consul Rodlfo Quilantan of Little Rock visited the Hempstead County library on October 30th.  Qulantan said his office had donated Spanish language  textbooks for the Hispanic community and for the local educators who are bilingual.  Quilantan said the materials could not be checked out by some of the Hispanic community due to a lack of a picture i.d. needed to secure a library card.  Qulantan met with librarian Courtney McNiel to show the picture i.d.’s issued by the Mexican Consulate and McNiel agreed the i.d.’s could be recognized to allow Hispanic residents to acquire a local library card.  Quilantan is shown with library officials and the first two ladies to receive library cards using their Mexican Consulate i.d.’s.  Pictured are Maria Coronilla, Maria Gutierrez, Jamie Formby of the library, Quilantan, Librarian Courtney McNiel, local Hispanic advocate and publisher of the “Amigo” newspaper Eddie Garcia, and Ernesto Barajas of the Mexican Consulate.
