Filing period underway

PRESCOTT – Those running for Justice of the Peace, City Council, City Clerk, County Coroner or Constable have until Nov. 12 to file for office.

The filing period has been set and will run Nov. 5-12, ending at noon on Nov. 12. Filing fees for both city council, Nevada County Coroner and quorum court are $125 for Democratic candidates. The fee for city recorder is $75.

For GOP candidates, the fees are $55 for city council and JP, $25 for coroner and $10 for city recorder.

However, for those planning to run as Independents, the filing period is the same, but they must get petitions signed and turned in by noon on Nov. 12. The petitions must be signed by 3 percent of the registered voters in the district or ward of those who voted in the 2016 General Election for Governor. A total of 2,536 people voted in the county.
