Weather doesn’t deter veterans being honored

PRESCOTT – Inclement weather didn’t stop Prescott from celebrating and honoring its veterans Monday.

While a Veteran’s Day Parade had been planned, the weather required those plans be scrapped and new ones made. Instead of a parade, a celebration was held at the Nevada County Courthouse.

Herb Langston, Nevada County Veteran Affairs representative, told how his first success was working with David Crews, a Vietnam veteran who was having medical problems. The two worked together and Crews’ health has improved.

The Prescott High School band played a medley of the themes from the Army, Navy and Marines. Veterans were recognized and thanked for their service.

Those attending stood out in a heavy mist/light rain to give their thanks to those who served and risked their lives for this nation.

Cider and cupcakes were served inside. The event kicked off with the Boy Scouts showing the colors. Inside, members of the scouts passed out flags attached to straws.
