Post 427 Veterans Day Program
A Veterans Day program was held on Monday, November 11 by Post 427, at the Community Center located in the Hope Fair Park. The program began with 1st Vice Johnny Witherspoon opening the ceremony and the Hope AFJROTC presenting the colors. Denisha Harris with AFJROTC lead the ceremony in the Pledge of Allegiance. Cadet Anthony Hall read a poem. The POW MIA were recognized by the Hope AFJROTC. They presented a missing man table; a small round table, with a white cloth, a single red rose, a ribbon, a slice of lemon, a pinch of salt, the Holy Bible, a candle, and a glass. Mr. Osie Wyatt introduced Lt. Col (Retired) Mark S. Hart USAF as the guest speaker. He spoke on investing in our younger generation with three main points;
- Make the investment
- Continue making the investment
- Give back to the community
Veterans and those serving have made that investment by taking the oath. Lt. Col Hart is currently the instructor for the AFROTC at Hope High School. We need to encourage and invest in future generations. Our investment now will continue to invest in generations to come. The AFJROTC members were then introduced. A handmade quilt was presented Commander Herbert Ross. The quilt was made by Judy Heckman. Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton, Bubba Powers, and Hempstead County Judge Jerry Crane also gave a few words during the event.
