NES beating the odds; earns award improvement in math

ROSSTON – Nevada Elementary School got some incredible news recently.

The Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas has been recognized as a school that’s beating the odds because of the growth the students showed on their recent ACT Aspire tests, though the Nevada School District serves a large percentage of students int he free and reduced lunch program.

According to a letter sent to Nevada by Sarah McKenzie, Ph.D. and the executive director of the OEP, Nevada earned its “Beating the Odds” award because of it’s improvement in math growth at the elementary level in the Southwest Region.

The awards are based on the 2019 content growth score calculated by the Arkansas Department of Education. The scores showed a marked improvement from 2018.

Additionally, NES was the only elementary school in the region to be so recognized as well as the only Class A school to earn the honor.
