Watson hosts community coffee at library Thursday

PRESCOTT – Thursday’s community coffee was sponsored by State Rep. Danny Watson, who’s seeking reelection in Dist. 3.

Watson said school districts need to pay attention to what’s going on in Little Rock with the schools there because it’ll affect them as well. He told the crowd at the Nevada County Library he visits all schools in his district.

Prescott’s Superintendent, Robert Poole, Watson said, has asked about the money districts are allotted, saying it needs to be readdressed and increased. According to Watson, there is a third party in Little Rock working on this issue.

He talked about how Prescott had everything in place for a Veteran’s Day parade Monday, but weather conditions didn’t permit it to occur. However, he said, the veteran’s were still honored with a ceremony at the Nevada County Courthouse.

He also said there’s a lot of good things going on in Prescott and Nevada County with the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce and Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office in the forefront, along with the city and county governments.

Watson said Gov. Asa Hutchinson is looking at the wi-fi/broadband issue in rural areas. Initially, Hutchinson was limiting improvements to communities with populations of 500 or more. An uproar from smaller communities, though, has the governor reevaluating this figure.
