Truck stops generate most tax money

PRESCOTT – It should come as no surprise the majority of the sales tax for the City of Prescott is generated at the two major truck stops, Love’s and TA.
In second place is auto repair and maintenance, followed by Prescott Water and Light as the top three.
In 2019 the city’s sales tax generated $852,781.74 for an average of $71,065.15 per month. The county’s sales tax brought in $2,130,778.40, or $177,564.87 a month. Overall, the tax generated in the city and county amounted to $2,983,560.14, or $248,630.01 a month.
The state collects 6.5 percent sales tax, while the county has a 2 percent tax and the city one cent, bringing the tax on sales in the county to 9.5 percent.
