PRESCOTT – Recently, the City of PrescottĀ  received a grant for $199,982 for water and sewer improvements.

What makes this grant unusual is that it’s to replace existing water and sewer lines. Normally, according to Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, such grants are for new systems to be installed. The funds from this grant will be used to replace a six-inch water main at West Main and Walnut, and two, four, and six-inch sewer lines on West Olive St.

A.L. Franks of Texarkana will be the project engineer as he submitted the lowest bid of four companies. This project will replace around 1,300 feet of 100-year-old cast iron water line along Walnut and West Main, as well as 1,300 feet of 110-year-old clay sewer lines on West Olive and 400 feet of water lines on W. Olive St.

The grant was done in partnership with the EDO and Southwest Arkansas Planning and Development District (SWAPDD) through the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) and is a general grant to replace water and sewer lines. Godwin said this is the first time Arkansas has given such a grant.

She thanked the SWAPDD saying it’s a great resource for Southwest Arkansas.
