Schools closed till April 17

PRESCOTT – Thursday afternoon Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson ordered all schools in the state to remain closed until April 17 as a way to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Locally, school superintendents are working to make sure students get fed during this crisis. Nevada Superintendent Rick McAfee said the staff at Nevada is working to make sure the district’s students get at least two meals a day. The meals are prepared at the school and delivered door-to-door to the student’s, with someone going with the bus driver to drop off the meals.

McAfee said the district is also working to insure educating the students doesn’t fall by the wayside during this time.  Teachers are putting lesson plans together which will be delivered with the meals and picked up when the next day’s meals are delivered. As much as possible is being done online, but, he added, the internet keeps going down because of the lack of bandwidth in the rural areas.
