NCRU gets new truck

By Staff, 04/16/20 1:17 PM

PRESCOTT – Christmas came early for the Nevada County Rescue Unit with the delivery of a new pumper truck Wednesday evening.

NCRU Capt. John Smillie said the new truck was purchased from Wisconsin for $13,000. The vehicle has 28,000 miles and 1,060 hours on it, making it a virtually new truck. The truck arrived at the NCRU at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“We’ve been needing it for a long time,” Smillie said. “Our other one was on its last legs. I’m proud we got it.” The NCRU will be paying for its new truck for two years. Smillie said it was a long battle to get the rig, but now the NCRU can serve the community better. Last year, he added, the NCRU had a brush truck donated by Wake Village, Texas. In addition, the NCRU has updated all its extrication equipment, so it’s all new.

The NCRU is funded with Act 833 money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), grants and donations.
